STAIR WORK
Unfortunately, the prototype installation on the west side stairs on floors 13, 14 and 15 has been going much slower than hoped and anticipated.  The purpose of this prototyping phase was to work out any bugs and detail issues in the design, production and installation of the components.  It has been successful in accomplishing that goal, but in the process some components have been removed to be refabricated and reinstalled, and as mentioned is taking quite a bit of time.

However, on an optimistic note, we are very happy with the finished product and how it is all coming together.  When the prototype section is complete, we should be able to proceed at a consistent, regular and safe pace to project completion. 

More information on anticipated completion dates will be forthcoming soon.  We greatly appreciate west side building occupant’s patience during this process.  The entire west stairway continues to be closed off from any usage. The following note that was published in Fermi Today describes the continuing situation at the west side stairs.

“While the Wilson Hall atrium is under construction please be aware of the following procedures in case of an emergency evacuation.  The west atrium stairs will remain unlocked during construction as a secondary path to the floor below in a fire emergency. The doors are posted with signage, cone barriers and removable yellow tape. They should be used only if the rear enclosed exit is blocked in a fire emergency. No access is allowed at any other time.”
